Another question that we often get is “Where are you off to next?”
In mid August we’ll flee the US for nine months again. This time, to Central and South America. We’ve made a ton of reservations using points and miles and we once again expect living abroad to be cheaper than living in the US.
Our flight to South America has a stopover in Guatemala, so we’ll add some time there and in Panama before proceeding on to Peru.
What kind of highlights can we expect?
We’ll of course be hitting the premiere destinations: Machu Picchu, Galapagos, Carnival, etc. So I won’t go into those now. But here are a couple of the more out-of-the-way places that we’re headed to:
In Peru, the Huacachina Oasis. Literally, an oasis in the middle of the Ica desert. While we’re in the area we want to take a tour of Canyon of the Lost (and hopefully not get lost ourselves)! Rainbow Mountain, Lake Titicaca and Sacred Valley should all be great too. We’ll spend time in Manu National Park which will be our first shot at seeing giant river otters.
Chile – the Atacama desert. This is the driest non-polar desert on Earth. Many houses there are built without ceiling or roofs because it never rains!
In Brazil, Bonito offers spectacular freshwater diving. For one of the sinkholes, you need to rappel into it before starting your dive!
Other countries include Bolivia, Ecuador, Columbia, Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina.
