Volcanic Eruption, Marburg outbreak & armed skirmishes south of us

There was a volcanic eruption in the Danakil Depression. But it happened five days after we left and it was at a different volcano than the one we went to.

I received a US State Department alert not to go to southern Ethiopia due to an outbreak of the Marburg virus. Fortunately, we planned to be 100 miles north of there.

Armed skirmishes broke out at the southern border with Kenya. I was briefly inducted into the Ethiopian army.

But I managed to escape (yes, I’m holding a real AK-47).
