The Good, Bad & The Ugly again…
The gorilla trekking, lion petting and Murchison Falls were amazing. The Pakwach area was awful. We were in a terrible hotel compound surrounded by poverty. We had hoped to run in the area but we weren’t able to leave the hotel.
Three of our hotels (Entebbe, Kampala and Jinja – Igar Plaza Hotel) were okay, other than wifi problems. The lodges by the gorilla trekking were outstanding and our free Expedia hotel in Jinja (Jinja Nile Hotel) was outstanding.
The usual military police checkpoints were a pain in the ass. Food ranged from excellent (lodges) to poor. At least it was inexpensive.
While we were in Jinja, which is kind of a resort area, we did a half day (well, two hour) rafting trip on the Nile river. It was neat to be on the Nile river and we did see a few otters. But there was only one class III rapid and one class IV rapid. The boat did flip in the class IV rapid.
We also stopped at the equator (first time since 1995 for me and 2000 for Kate). Nothing there except for a sign.
