After our train was cancelled, we had to spend another night in Dar Es Salaam. As great as the Holiday Inn was, I wanted to try the Ramada Resort by Wyndham Dar Es Salaam. It looked nicer (and indeed it was) plus, it was only 13,500 points per night (Holiday Inn had gone up to 20,000 points per night). However, there’s another factor. Wyndham only has properties in Dar Es Salaam and Addis Ababa. But, IHG has several properties in eastern and southern Africa. So we needed to save our IHG points for later use.

I have often heard that Ramadas in Europe are much better than Ramada hotels in the US. And I can attest that this property in Dar Es Salaam is far superior than any Ramada I’ve ever stayed at in the US. They upgraded us to an ocean view room with a balcony upon arrival. The pool is 54 meters long (13′ longer than an olympic sized pool)! The pool water was just right. There is a semi-private beach. The temperature of the Indian ocean borders on hot. We had a good dinner and an excellent breakfast buffet.
