Gibraltar, a British territory, is a lovely city of only 40,000 people. To get to it, you walk from La Linea de la Conception, Spain, across the middle of the Gibraltar airport runway. On the other side of the airport is Gibraltar. The rock itself has been a fortress for hundreds of years. For centuries, controlling Gibraltar meant controlling access to the Mediterranean Sea.
There had been a cable car that took visitors to the top for over fifty years. But it closed in 2024 for refurbishment. We took the hiking trail and hiked all over the rock.
