The best option to see the sights from Aswan to Luxor is to take a cruise along the Nile. Unfortunately, there were no point options available. So we contacted cruise companies and asked if they had any cancellations that they needed to fill. The (let’s just call them the best of the mid-level cruise ships) gave us one of their Presidential suites for 15% below the cost of their bottom line cabin. Sweet!
It was my first experience on a cruise and it was fantastic. Our guide, an Egyptologist (well, just try and find a guide in Egypt who isn’t an Egyptologist) was great. He took us to the Aswan high dam, the Temple of Isis, the Temple of Edfu, the Kom Ombu temple, the Valley of the Kings (we saw six tombs here, including the tomb of Tutankhamun, the tombs of Ramses V and Ramses VI which were my favorite), the temple of Hatshepsut, Karnac Temple and Luxor Temple. The only disappointing thing was that we did not get to meet Karnac the Magnificent (Johnny Carson fans will know what I am talking about).
Besides the cruise, we flew down (on points!) to Abu Simbal to visit the Great Temple of Ramses the Second and the Hasthor Temple.
